QlikView Load Script Generator

by QVApps on February 1, 2011

This beginning of the year is turning out to be a very interesting one. Last week we covered the release of the crack for QlikView 10 from the Cygnus group and this week we find out via @gillespol that a new interesting tool has been released.

The tool is called QlikView Script Generator and aims to make the creation of load script easier in QlikView by means of wizards and graphical elements.

QlikView Script Generator

All QlikView developers will agree that the QlikView Load Script is not as user friendly as it could be. We haven’t tested the tool yet, but we certainly will give it a try.  If you have any comments about this tool, we’ll be happy to hear about it.

It certainly looks like an excellent candidate for the QVApps store

I played around with this application for a couple of hours today. My initial impression is that it’s not too bad for a 1.0 RC effort but it is not user friendly enough to justify using it at this time. In the time I spent trying to figure it out (with the documentation and videos in front of me) I could’ve just written the same script by hand in QV, and in half the time. I’m sure that would change with a higher level of proficiency of course, but it just wasn’t compelling enough to make want to give it another try tomorrow.

Thanks for your article, we will be pleased to be present on qvapps tell me how?

Brian can you tell me what would be the the enhancement you expect to be more user friendly.

You where quicker for sure with your experience but will it be the case for a beginner?

What about design snowflake schema of 15 db tables with heterogeneous columns names in QlikView Scripts. How much time will you spend in scripting? In QsGen it will take you 2 minutes!

The goal of QsGen is to have a central project with reusable Mappings and generate different scripts from here. It takes time to design but afterward you win in maintenance.
